Dear you,
I don't know your name yet. Maybe you are planning your wedding in Portugal. Maybe you are a planner, a florist, a friend. Or maybe you just love love. Whoever you are, this letter is for you.
After a few years of photographing weddings, I finally know what kind of work I want to make, and the kind of people I want to make it with. So before this new chapter begins, I want to stop for a moment and tell you what I have learned.
All weddings are the same (and none of them are)
Here is a small secret. Every wedding is a little bit the same. There is always a walk down the aisle. Someone always cries during the speeches. Someone always dances too hard. There is cake, there are toasts, there is that song everybody knows.
And still, every single time, it feels like the first time.
Because the promise is real. Two people look at each other in front of the people they love most and say: it's you. In that moment, nothing else exists. That moment is not the same as any other. It belongs only to them.
I have been to many weddings now, and I still feel it. The quiet look before the ceremony. A father's hand on his daughter's shoulder. A grandmother laughing at the back of the room. The last song at the end of the night, when the shoes are off and nobody wants to go home. All weddings are the same, and each one is extraordinary.
What these years have taught me
A wedding doesn't need to be flawless to be beautiful. It doesn't need to be big or over-produced. It's the people, the relationships and the little moments in between that make a story special. That is what I look for.
The best photos happen when you forget I'm there. I stay in the background, a calm and mindful presence, and let your day unfold. When you need me, I guide you gently. Most of the time, I just watch, and wait for the moment to arrive.
My favourite moment is right after the ceremony. The nerves are gone. The cocktail starts. You hug your people, you laugh, you breathe. Everything feels light and full of joy. I could photograph that moment forever.
Photos are not about the day. They are about the years after. When I received my own wedding photos, I relived the whole day. I felt it again: the joy, the people, the warmth. That feeling changed my life. It's the reason I do this.

A new chapter for Sofia Brito Photography
Today, Sofia Brito Photography starts a new chapter.
You may notice a new look: a new logo, new colours, new words and a new home for my work. But the heart is the same, only clearer. I wanted my brand to feel like my photos do: intimate, natural, romantic and full of life.
My photos pulse. They hold the light of the day, the people and the places, the plans and the surprises. They keep it all alive in your hands, so years from now you can feel it again. That is what I want to give every couple I photograph.
There is a name for it, the words I sign my work with: Intimate lovestories.
What comes next
In this new chapter, I want to keep doing what I love most:
Intimate weddings and elopements in Portugal, with up to around 60 or 70 guests, where everyone matters and every moment counts.
Destination weddings for couples from all over the world who choose Portugal for its light, its food and its slow, warm pace. You can find my favourite places in my guide on where to get married in Portugal.
Digital and film photography, because some moments deserve the softness and the grain of film.
Working with planners and creatives I admire, the people who make these days possible. Some of them are in my list of Portugal wedding planners whose work I love.
Writing more here. Real weddings, honest planning tips and little lessons from behind the camera. If you are planning now, my tips to plan a destination wedding in Portugal are a good place to start.
To the couples I haven't met yet
I don't know your story yet. I don't know if you will marry in a garden in Sintra, among the vines in the Douro or by the sea in the Algarve. I don't know who will cry first, or which song will make everyone run to the dance floor.
But I know this: your wedding will look a little like every other wedding, and like no other wedding in the world. And I would love to be there to see it.
If this feels like you, write to me. Tell me about the two of you, your people and your plans. Check my availability here, or look through some real love stories first.
With love, and a full heart,
Sofia
