Choosing your photographer from another country can feel like a leap. You can't meet for coffee. You only know them through a screen.
So here are the questions I think every couple should ask before booking. I've added my own answers too, so you know exactly how I work.
1. Have you photographed weddings like ours?
Look past the best photos on the website. Ask to see one or two full galleries, from start to finish. That shows you how the photographer tells a whole story, not just the highlights.
My answer: I'm happy to send you full galleries from weddings in Lisbon, Sintra, the Douro and the Algarve. You can also read real stories on my Love Stories page.
2. How do you work on the day?
Some photographers pose every moment. Others never say a word. Ask what the day will feel like for you and your guests.
My answer: I stay in the background most of the day, so you can be with your people. When it helps, I guide you, gently. Every couple is different, so I adapt to you.
3. Do you speak English well?
This sounds simple, but it matters. On the day, your photographer needs to talk to your family, your planner and your venue, often in a hurry.
My answer: I spent 16 years in aviation, speaking English every day with people from all over the world. I also speak Portuguese, so I can talk to local venues and suppliers for you.
4. Will you help us plan the timeline?
A good timeline is the secret to good photos. Light, travel time and the order of the day all change the result.
My answer: yes. A few weeks before the wedding, I go through the day with you, and I plan the couple photos for the best light.
5. When will we get our photos?
Ask for a clear date, and ask if you get a few photos sooner.
My answer: you get a sneak peek in about 48 hours. Your full gallery comes in about 60 days. It's a private online gallery where your guests can find their own photos, and you can order prints and albums.
6. Do you work alone?
Some photographers come with a team. Others work alone. Both are fine, but you should know who will be there.
My answer: I work alone, so I'm the one who gets to know you and the one who takes your photos. For bigger weddings, you can add a second photographer.
7. What is included in the price?
Compare what you get, not just the number. Check hours, travel, number of photos and extras.
My answer: my wedding collections start from €3,000. Every collection includes my support from booking to delivery, a welcome kit, drone photos when the weather and place allow, and your online gallery. I send the full details after our first call.
8. Do we get along?
This is the most important one. Your photographer is with you all day, even in the quiet, emotional moments. You should feel easy with them.
My answer: that's why the first step is always a relaxed video call. No pressure. Just a chat to see if it feels right for both sides.
